The Spruce Goose

Today we headed to McMinnville, OR and the aviation museum with Brian's dad. The famous "Spruce Goose" is there, along with numerous other planes from every time period. I think the three of us were a bit in awe of the size of it. It really was quite a build!

Here it is, in the background, dwarfing all other planes. Below is a picture of a cool plane that can land in the water or land. There was also a very awesome plane (that I didn't take a picture of) that can fly 2197 miles per hour. YES, it can fly 36 miles per minute. WOW. Flown in the 70's I think, retired now. Nicknamed the Blackbird.

So, this picture kind of puts the size of the plane into perspective. Here is the tail of the plane, the tip is the height of an 8 story building!! Made of wood. Incredible. Watch "The Aviator" if you want to know some more about it.

Of course they have a kiddo section...We might have spent some time here, playing on the flight simulator computers...
Pretending to fly little planes...
Fighting the enemy...

It was fun to finally see the plane put together. Many years ago I saw one of the wings as it was on its way to the museum to be put together. My grandmother lived out in the area and we were on our way to her house. And there was this HUGE wing on a side road in the country. And now I got to see the whole thing. Fun day trip.
